    Hi,

The newest version of iMovie doesn't have the option to share to DVD.  To burn a video DVD you would need to share your movie to your desktop as a file (480p setting doesn't matter), and then drag/import it into a DVD authoring program like iDVD or Roxio Toast.  There also is a free on line program called Burn that you can get here:  http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html

Apple no longer sells iDVD so you would need to buy that in the iLife '09 package from a third party vendor, like Amazon or ebay.  Or if you happen to own  the iLife disc from an older Apple computer you could download it from there.    Roxio Toast, I believe, can be purchased from the Apple app store.

You would also need to have a computer with a built in disk burner, or have an external DVD burner that you can plug into your computer.

I have tried using 720p setting, but that wouldn't play on the TV. Any other suggestions?

    Hi,

I have been using imovie for a while, and i now know the free thing always can not satisfy me, so i find a paid one which is very helpful and powerful and it convert videos to  other formats videos in 480p, or 720p. More detail of this video converter, you can click:

    Hi,

I guess I am not understanding your procedure.  Did you burn a DVD and try to play it on your TV?   Did you plug your computer into a TV and try to play a movie?

Perhaps it might help if you could describe in detail exactly what you are trying to do, and what exactly the steps you took to carry it out.

    Hi Rich,

Thanks for your help. Here is what I did:

    1. created movie

    2. on iMovie, went to File - Share - File. Options to save were: 540p 60, 720p 60, 1080p 60, and 4k. I left it at the default of 720p.

    3. I downloaded Wondershare DVD Creator and Created a New Project. I dragged the imovie file I just saved into the program, clicked the burn icon and created a disc in the TV standard NTSC.

    4. Put the disc in my TV's DVD player. A picture of the project appears on the TV, but I cannot play the disc.

I hope you have an idea about I need to do.

Hmmm.   From its website Wondershare does appear to be an authoring program that should be able to create a DVD that plays on your TV with a DVD player.

Review the procedure that you followed to create the disc in Wondershare to make sure you created it properly.   You want a movie DVD and not a data DVD, because the latter won't play on a DVD player. Check the settings on your DVD player/TV to make sure that all is in order and that you are following the correct playing procedure, and that you DVD player can play the format of your DVD disc.  There are lots of different video DVD formats, such as DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc. Different DVD players have their own DVD format specs. Possibly your DVD player won't play burned DVD because of incompatibility.

If still no luck, test  to see if the disc plays on your computer or in a friend's TV DVD player.  Failing that, try re-burning the disc onto a different brand of DVD disc.  Use a -R disc if you previously burned on a +R.   As mentioned above, DVD players can sometimes have trouble playing certain types of disc and different brands of disc media.  You could also try a different authoring program to see if you have better luck.     Finally, if Wondershare has a trouble shooting help menu on its website, you might try there.

Thanks anyway. I pretty sure that it has something to do with the lack of a 480p option in the imovie program.

    Hi,

480p option has nothing to do with it.   You are able to export a playable movie, which means that iMovie has done its job.  You were able to burn a DVD, which means that it rendered fine despite no 480p.  No matter what resolution you export at, DVD will reduce it to standard 480p. DVD is a standard resolution delivery media.

Further, if you want to export at 480p from iMovie, then try putting a known 480p clip into your project as the first clip that you place in the project.    That should set the export resolution to 480p. The resolution and frame rate of an iMovie project are determined by the first clip you place in the project.   After placing that clip in and adding another clip, you can then delete the first clip..  The resolution will have been set and you should be able to export at 480p, though it won't make any difference to your ability to burn a DVD as you already have proven.   The reason that you have not had the 480p option is likely because the first clip was not a 480p clip.

I don't think that this is an iMovie issue.   I suggest that you try the things that I mentioned in my previous posts.

    Best,

       Rich
