Q: Can I delete an album or change name in Photos. El Capitan 10.11.6

I need to delete several albums in Photos. They are duplicates. If I can not delete them can I change the name. Operating system is El Capitan. 10.11.6. This seems that it would be a problem for many people trying to organize.

iPhone 5c, iOS 7.0.3

Of course you can do both or either  - right click (control click) on the album and select delete album - to change the name just click and when the box opens with the name type the new name

Thank you, Larry. Sorry, I am not as literate as some, I guess. Afraid I'm not sure how to right click. Do I click something else besides the control key? I did get the box to clear to rename, but couldn't get it to delete.

Seems this simple question should be in the help section. Why is it so difficult to get an answer? But again, thanks for your help.

I just figured out how to right click, but when I tried to delete the album, I deleted the one above it, that I did not want to delete. Dang!!

which why I explained how to right click in my post

right click (control click) on the album and select delete album

and when you do this it will always delete the album you did the right click on - never  a different one

Maybe you may have accidentally missed the to-be-deleted album and right-clicked the album above?

The currently selected album will be highlighted. So you can check, which album will be deleted.

And check again, when you are seeing the prompt: Screen Shot 2016-10-17 at 08.24.03 GMT.png

Thank you all. Finally after a while, I figured out how to change, edit and delete the albums. I don't understand why they don't put this into the help menu.

    You're welcome.

Actually, the "delete album" is described in the Photos Help, but not easy to find. It is described in the subsection "Create Albums". A separate heading "Delete albums" is missing.

I prefer to use the online version of the Help. It is easier to search. It will always show the sidebar with the table of contents.

    https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.2/?lang=en#/

    And for the albums:  https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.2/?lang=en#/pht6d60a1f1

If you cannot find features in the help or find them poorly explained, you can send feedback directly from the page you are viewing. Just click the feedback link at the bottom of the page and explain, what is missing:

Realise that deleted images go into the 'Recently Deleted'folder and are not purged from the system immediately.  If you want to free up storage space, use an app which will clear duplicates in your library (eg PhotoSweeper) and make sure you are not holding onto the iPhotos library.
