I bought an unactivated (paid fullprice) Iphone 7 in Best Buy. I brought it to Ecuador and inserted the sim from an Ecuador's carrier. The phone showed that the sim is not from a supported carrier.

Right, the device would have to be activated by the carrier that it was being sold under, even though it was unlocked. The carrier has to activate it before you can use it with any other SIM.

Follow the steps in the following support articles, as appropriate. If your iPhone is locked to a different carrier than the one that you want to use, you will need to contact the original carrier:

Note that the carrier may require a period of paid service before they will unlock the iPhone.
Ok! This is what happened: I contacted apple to find out which carrier locked the phone. They told me it was T mobile. T-mobile does not have the IMEI number registered in their database. Apple says one thing and T-mobile another. What do you recommend I do since Im getting two contradicting answers from the only sources that should know?

You say that it was unactivated when you got it. That might be why T-mobile can't see it. It was never activated on their network. If you purchased it at a BestBuy, which I assume was in the U.S., it may need to be returned to the U.S. and activated on their network, then see if they will unlock it.
