Canout update iPod software - error 1417

I have a brand new iPod bought today. I have just downloaded the latest iTunes 7.02 and it tells that there is a new version of the iPod software V1.2.1.

So I try to update the software...it starts to do so then stops with an error

"The ipod "xxx" could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (1417)"

The iPod seems to owrk ok in all other respects. I have done a reset.

Any ideas?

I was under the impression you can only update/restore with iTunes now?

In my case, iTunes downloaded the update successfully before the error occurred - just to be sure I uninstalled iTunes, deleted the Application Data folders in Windows and the update was downloaded again.

Needless to say the same error occured. 🙂

Sounds like the same problem I'm still having...exact quote:

"There was a problem downloading the ipod software to ipod. The requested resource was not found."

I've done the five Rs (and then some), no avail. I'm gonna rack my brain for about another hour, if no luck, I'm headed back to Best Buy for a refund in the morning.
