Oct 17, 2016 8:49 AM in response to TBS2by Baby Boomer (USofA),Please detail ALL you have done so far in the way of troubleshooting? Need this info to avoid the "been there done that" scenarios.
What is your network setup? Have you checked your wi-fi settings? Run Diagnostics?
Any reason why you are not using the ethernet for a desktop?

Oct 17, 2016 9:00 AM in response to Baby Boomer (USofA)by TBS2,I have verified using "Network Preferences" that the network is in the list and that "ask to join networks" is NOT checked. Also that the two networks I choose from are numbers 1 and 2 on the list to join. In addition "Remember networks this computer has joined" is checked.
I am networked using a Netgear N600 WiFi Cable Modem Router Model 3700. Works fine when the Mac connects.
Have not run diagnostics, not sure what I'd run, but if you have a suggestion, please let me know.
There is no cable connection in the room where the Mac is located, so we use Wi-Fi.
Hope this helps.

Actually there are 2 you can run. #1 - System Preferences>Network
Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary. Post the results.
#2 - Go to your wi-fi icon & do the following:
Option+wi-fi icon
Select Open Wireless Diagnostics & follow the onscreen instructions.
Post the results.
Your internet connection dropping from both networks?
Sorry, I do not use Sierra. Suggest that you review that forum area for suggestions as there are a few postings there about "dropping internet connections." Let me know if you want to post there so I can request a HOST to move this posting over to the Sierra forum area. This way you won't have to repost.

Oct 17, 2016 10:44 AM in response to Baby Boomer (USofA)by TBS2,Ran both of the diagnostics you suggested. The one that I opened through the "system preferences" tool says the internet connection is working correctly. When I ran the one opened through the "option wifi icon" route and compiled the report, I got the following. (There are 24 WiFi signals in this neighborhood. Maybe that's the issue.)

Oct 17, 2016 11:17 AM in response to Baby Boomer (USofA)by TBS2,Interesting pattern on the channels. I have two frequencies in use. On the 2.4 GHz there were four of us on channel 1. I fixed that. On the 5.0 GHz I have the only network up and running. Wonder where the other 21 are.
Will see how this works.
Thank you for your help,
Tim
