Q: Help with old HD on new Mac

OK. so here is the issue.

I bought a External Hard Disk Drive Docking Station and connected it to my new mac. I plugged in the old mack to the docking station. after about a minute it connects.

After opening the drive i can start looking around but then my whole computer just restarts and i get a message saying there was an error and my computer shuts down.

I started thinking about what could have happened and realized the drive in the doc was called "Macintosh HD" just like the current HD for the new mac so i figured maybe it was trying to read something from the hd and was trying to read it from the one in the doc, got confused and shut down (or something similar) so I restarted it and as soon as it showed up i changed its name to "new External" and started looking around. then after a few minutes it crashed again.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to go through the old HD in the dock without having the computer get shut down constantly?

Thank you
