Q: Crashing when having more than 32GB of Ram

Ive read that you can install as much as 64GB of RAM in iMac 5k Late 2015.

My machine came with 16GB and I purchased 32GB (16x16) from OWC.

When I have all 48GB (8x8 & 16x16) installed my machine seems to intermittently freeze and/or crash.

  1. I've done an experiment where I've just used the initial 16GB
    • I did not have any crashes.
  2. To eliminate the issue of bad RAM, I then did an experiment using just the 32GB of OWC RAM
    • Again, no crashes

I am on my 2nd iMac 5k.  Based on what the Apple store told me (after having my computer in the shop for 2 weeks), they said my logic board, bluetooth and airport card were bad and they exchanged my computer for a new one.

Im now am on my replacement computer and still having the same EXACT issues.  I find it hard to believe that its the computer.  The only constant is the RAM.

Anyhow.. I wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing these kind of issues with RAM upgrades.

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

You seem to think the issue is hardware based while it very well could be what software you have installed. Please post an EtreCheck report of your system as your reply to this message. Click the link, download and run the app and copy and paste your report results as your reply to this message. clean my mac 3 is known scam ware and it will cause problems

see the developers page for instructions on how to remove it.

I would also remove the google app and tunnel bear to test.

in addition of these 4 packages I would remove the last 3.

I'm running 64GB RAM and it's very stable but my build of OS X 10.12 is very clean I and don't like to keep 3rd party junk on my system if it's just a gimmick that potentially conflicts with the OS.

I Have to agree about CMM! Mac OS does not require any cleaning, antivirus or ANY other third party "maintenance" apps. Mac OS is incredibly secure and has all the tools it needs built into it already.
