Q: Photos Won't Recognize Camera OS Sierra

Since installing Sierra, Photos won't recognize the camera. The camera is recognized by system info when it's connected. Thanks, Jim

Will Image Capture see it? Use IC or the finder to move the photos to your Mac and import into Photos - once they are safely on the  Mac and backed up  use the camera's format command to erase and reformat the card - this should resolve this - and for the future it is a best practice no to have PHotos (or any computer program) erase the photos but to keep them until you are sure they are safe and at least one backup has occurred then erase and reformat the card using the camera - this protects you against loss of photos and keeps the card format fresh and uncorrupted

Image Capture recognized the camera but when I selected it it said no camera selected. I erased the photos (they weren't important), reformatted the card, took a photo and tried again- same result: Photos doesn't recognize it- IC does but when selected says no camera selected.

Update: When I tried with a different camera it worked as it should. Could it be that the other camera is too old to be recognized? It's a Canon Powershot A40. I would rather use this camera- takes better photos. Any suggestions? Thanks. Jim

Did you use the camera's format command to erase the photos? If you did hen you need to connect the camera and look through the menus and try each connection setting or read about them in the camera manual - it may be an issue the the connection type you are using

Did you connect the camera directly or use a card reader? If a camera is directly connected it needs to be in the correct mode for a computer connection.  Check the settings in the camera. Which camera model are you using?

It is usually safer to use a card reader instead of connection the camera directly. This way you avoid problems with the camera mode and the camera software interfering.

Are you shooting RAW or JPEG?  If RAW, is the camera on the list of supported cameras for Sierra?
