Q: PDF forms not working in El Capitan
I have a PDF in which the PDF Form function of Preview worked perfectly in El Capitan several months ago. Trying to fill out that form in Preview today, the only place I can enter text is in check boxes and on blank lines. I can discover no way to insert text in fields that are composed of a line of squares (designed to make those filling in by hand print legibly) by clicking on them. All I had to do previously was place the cursor on a line like that and click. Now, nothing happens at all. In April, I got one character in each box of such lines; now, nothing. In the screenshot, note that I was able to select a checkbox and place text on a blank line. The rows of boxes that were editable, or at least worked perfectly in Preview's PDF-Form function, in April are no longer editable
There have been updates to El Capitan since then, but it's the same OS -- 10.11.x
What am I doing wrong?
iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Three approaches to this problem:
- Quit Preview. Look for, and move to Trash, any com.apple.Preview plist, or package in /Users/yourname/Library/Caches folder. Open your PDF form in Preview.
- Perform a Safe Boot. Try your PDF form in Preview there, and after a normal reboot, try it once again in Preview.
- Switch to latest Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, which has more current, and robust PDF support than Preview.
