default ringtones lost for messages and phone calls

I am running OS 9.3.5 on my iPhone 6. Over the past few days I do not get ringtone alerts for phone calls or iMessages. In Settings>Sounds>Ringtone I have Marimba selected. For Text Tone I have Chord selected. Neither tone plays when I receive calls or texts. I made no changes to Settings or the OS. Mail alert sounds also do not play. I am not on Airplane mode or Do Not Disturb. I have Vibrate on Ring turned on but Vibrate on Silent off. I get no vibrations (good or bad😁) either. I reset the phone by powering down and on again - no change. I need a solution.

Greetings, Robert Enders!
From your post, I understand that suddenly your iPhone 6 on iOS 9.3.5 isn't sending any audible alerts from the tones you've selected for phone calls and text messages. I like to respond to either as quickly as possible and that would definitely hinder my ability to do so. Good job on restarting your phone, that's a tried and true step for troubleshooting. But, you're still not hearing those ringtones, so I'll be glad to help!
How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- Before any troubleshooting, I always recommend a fresh backup to keep your personal information safe.
Reset iPhone settings -- Be sure to write down your Wi-Fi networks/passwords before starting. On your phone, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This step will return your iPhone's settings to factory default. Set up the tones for phone calls and text messaging and test. If the issue persists after this step, you can always restore from the backup you created if you'd like to bring your settings back.

Let me know how that goes and thanks for using Apple Support Communities!

Starr.C - I tried your suggestions and no luck. Sorry for taking so long to respond - I completely forgot I had this issue still outstanding. When I returned to town I visited the local Apple store and they fixed it for me. It took a whole wiping of the phone's innards not just a reset to factory default. Took about an hour and a half by the Apple expert but we got 'er going again. I truly appreciate your input.
