My Gmail address username is my first name and my last name. Someone in Denmark is using the same thing with a dot in between the first and last name as his AppleID login. This past summer I received an email from Apple in which it stated "You recently requested a password reset or unlock your Apple ID. Click the link below to continue." This was when I learned that kurtsahl and kurt.sahl are treated as identical usernames. I contacted Apple and after a long discussion, the answer was, "This is Gmail issue, not an AppleID issue."
I did not request to change my AppleID nor is my Apple ID the same as my Gmail address. Evidently, the person who owns this AppleID requested a change in his AppleID password. Shortly after, I received an email stating that the AppleID password had been changed. I don't know how he accomplished this because he did not have access to my email account. This account was created using MY e-mail address. This is NOT a Google issue because there is no problem with Gmail. This is an Apple issue because A[[;e allowed an account to be created using an e-mail address someone didn't actually have access to.
I am not concerned that this person can access my AppleID account, but I am concerned that I will be responsible for the AppleID account that uses my email address. I'm just looking for some resolution to the issue. Thanks. -- Kurt
