Help me discover my camera's IP address?

I have a POE injector-powered outdoor camera plugged directly into my MacBook Pro's ethernet port. I've looked through the System Prefs's Network settings but can't see that the camera has been identified at all. I'd like to know the camera's IP address. Can the "Bonjour" software help me discover the camera's IP address? Or the "Bonjour Browser" software?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

You need to connect that device to your Router, not to your Mac.

If you are completely stuck, and MUST use the port on your Mac, there is a way to load a software Router that could give another device an IP Address to get it working on your local Network. It does not work that way by default. Post back for assistance.

IP addresses are not something preset on devices, they depend on the network the are connected to to.

If its connected to your Mac then its up to the Mac to give it an IP address which may or may not have anything to do with the IP address it gets when connected to your home network.

If the Mac is setup as a DHCP server for internet sharing it may give it an IP address. Otherwise connecting it to the Mac's ethernet port will likely not result in the camera getting an IP address at all.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish by connecting the camera to the Mac?

Is the camera connected according to the manufacturer's instructions? If you are trying to connect a network camera to your network I would think that you would connect the camera to your router, which will give the camera an ip address, or the camera would be connected to the manufacturers DVR or other hardware that would provide the camera with an ip address.

Your Macbook Pro doesn't supply power over ethernet... so your camera won't work unless you use a power injector. There are such devices but with the value of your laptop versus the camera. I wouldn't recommend that you do that, unless you spend some good money on a high quality POE injector. Don't use a cheap no name one - ask me how I know.. I burned up a pc that way. Don't do it.

You can get a POE power over ethernet switch. I have a D-Link at home and a different brand at work. You will plug your laptop into it and also the camera and you will be able to see the camera then and the camera will have power and work.
