Q: Home page shortcut not working right

HI all

SInce installing the OS10.0.2 last week to my iPad air2 a very annoying thing is happening.

When I tap on a shortcut to a website from my home page it more often than not directs me to the favourites screen rather than to the website . I have to close the favourites then go back to the home page and re select the shortcut and then it will take me to the website.

This is very intermittent and does not do it every time but it's more often than not. This is the favourites screen that pops .And it's only started doing it since the last update.

The problem also happens if I ask Siri for help. Siri will give a list of sites to go to, if I select one of the sites I'm directed to the favourites screen and have to go back and do it all again.

Hi. Have you restarted the iPad since the update? Try this

    1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.

    2. Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.

    3. After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

It won't hurt, and it might sort things out.

OK. It works for me, with a newly created link, of course. You could try recreating one of those links, and see if that works. The contents of those link objects may have changed for iOS 10. The reason you see the Safari home page is that the attempted internet connection failed.

The links have been deleted and recreated and its still the same. The Apps open up fine no problem, it's just the website shortcuts that only work when they fell like it. My internet connection is very good, so no problem there either.

Im beginning to think that I may just have to sit on this for a while and hope it sorts its self out with the next update.

Its not a major problem and there are ways around it, but it's quite an annoying bug to have to keep refreshing and reselecting.

Many thanks for your suggestions Diana, most appreciated

    Simon.

I have seen the same problem with some of my home screen icons. Fortunately it's rare. Unfortunately it's rareness makes it harder to trouble shoot.

On the top row of the Favorite drop down panel why not add your home screen icons as Favorites ?

Also if you visit the sites often you can add the Favorites bar right above the tabs in Safari.

    Thanks Bob.

Thats exactly what I have done to get around it....create the shortcuts as favourites. It works , just not tap an go like it was , now it's tap, tap, tap and go.

I Can't do this with the Siri search links though. If I ask Siri for help, the same thing happens when I tap on a link that it gives. Fortunately I do not use Siri very often.

I Guess I'm one of those with this rare problem. I am just wondering if may be memory or rather the lack of if could be a cause as with the last update it's getting close to being full.

I May try taking some music off and see if it has any effect.

You're welcome. It could be memory I'm always running low, but this problem seems to be more recent. I'm goling to clear my Safari data. I'll be back shortly.

I hate clearing my website data but it seems to have done the job. Go to settings> Safari> clear history and website data.

OK I freed up 1.2 Gb of memory by removing some old music photos, unwanted apps etc. Cleared the Safari history/ web data again and still having the the same problem....

You can try restoring your iPad but I don't think it will help. I'd leave feedback for Apple at the link below.
