Q: Local Keychain is locked

I’ve always been a little confused about Keychain Access.  I’m helping a lady who has just upgraded her MacBook Air to Sierra and she has been seeing pop ups about items needing to “use the Local items keychain”.  She sees in Keychain Access that her Login keychain is unlocked, however, her Local keychain is locked, so the pop ups make sense.

 

She swears that she has not changed her password so I’m wondering how the Login Keychain could be unlocked and her Local keychain be locked.  When she clicks the “Allow” button another window pops up asking for her old password and new password, so that stumps her (and me) since she says she has always had only the one password.  I don’t know why when she logs in that the Local keychain remains locked while the Login keychain is unlocking.

 

Could the Local keychain have been corrupted after the upgrade?

 

How do I get her out of this and fix it so she doesn’t get these pop ups?

Hello !

If keychain is prompting to enter password multiple times , & pop - up is not going away when safari is opened .

In user library ( go to go folder & type ~/Library )  > keychains > remove first folder ( alfa numeric folder ) to trash . Restart & empty the trash , go to internet accounts & once again configure web mail account , I cloud mail account by entering four digit I cloud verification code .

Open air port utility via spotlight > enter your base station password .

    Hello !

                Please make sure , you are having , correct four digit I cloud verification code ( that is constant for the user )  , your web mail id , I cloud ID , Apple ID and their passwords respectively in your records , and also your base station password .

    Now , click on go to go folder type ~/Library select keychain - choose all the contents ( you can use command + A ) , delete ( command + delete ) them to trash .

     

    Note : Please do not delete the key chain folder only its contents .

     

    Restart and empty the trash .

    All , passwords are emptied .

    Go , to system preferences > internet accounts > a pop - up window will appear it will prompt to enter web mail and its password , if you are using  I cloud mail  same way enter the mail id & password .

    It  will configure , and take few minutes .

     

    Now go to airport utility > click on base station  > it will prompt to enter the base station  password , please do as , we have deleted all passwords from key chain , so it is must  to enter base station password .your base station light will turn green .

     

    This method is also helpful when we are not able to sign in App Store , internet accounts .
