Slow to respond back button

I have the solution - you have to reduce the size of the font (in settings, general, assessibility, larger text - slide the bar so it is just over the half way mark or under. my husband has the same phone but wasn't having the problems with the back button after the latest update. We compared the message layout & only if u have two identical phones can u see that my back button was squashed in the corner & much higher up & my husbands layout was much more spacious. now after reducing my font size my back button works perfectly first time & not going into 'cancel' mode.

Try pushing to the fight of the back button, it worked for me too !

I ended up finding a solution in another thread on this forum. Basically, you'll need to tap a little to the right of the back/return arrow instead of trying to tap directly on the arrow itself. I know it's not the best solution as your instinct will tell you to tap directly on the arrow, but it appears to work for me. Here's a link to the thread:

I have a brand new 32gb SE. Less than 10 days old. I started experiencing or noticed same problem the day after I purchased. That's why I am here looking for answers. It *****, cause this phone is suppose to be the same as 6s. It comes up short in several ways and I am not talking about the battery or screen size. Oh well. I guess it's one of those things I have to learn to deal with. Really ***** though. I truly expected to replace my 6s plus with a miniature model.

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings then restart the iPhone then try, "back" on a text".

That does not delete data.

Yes, I get this too. For me it seems intermittent and I've only become aware of it since the iOS 10 upgrade. It's like the back button freezes and doesn't respond to touch for period of time (it doesn't go lighter to indicate it's been pressed). As yet I haven't identified a pattern that reliably recreates it.

I am exactly on the same situation. The Apple Genius Bar, told me it is a glitch with software so I should wipe out everything and reload my backup again or wipe out clean and start from scratch but looks like you have already done that and the problem still persists? The back arrow randomly respond as exactly as you say.

Try to use your thumb if somehow your back button isn't responsive. It works for me, might work for you too.

New iPhone SE and this wretched problem won't go away. Was the same on iOS 10.2.1 and 10.3. Seems this bug has been reported a very long time ago and Apple, as usual, are ignoring us all.

I'm having the same issue with my new SE. As mentioned above though, pressing to the right of the back arrow works a treat, but still annoying!

Agreed that it's annoying that this seemingly simple issue hasn't been addressed.

This is also an issue with MyFitnessPal - to access the barcode scanner on the top right (opposite the back button in Messages), the fix is to touch slightly left of the button.😕
