Password required for invalid Apple-ID

When we set up my wife's new iPhone 7 and it asked for her Apple-ID for iCloud setup, I put n her email address that's not her ID. Of course this failed since it's not a valid Apple-ID. Then I put in the proper email and password and got the setup to complete. Now every time you turn the phone on it says she needs to sign in to iTunes with the invalid ID. You have to cancel it to continue with anything else. Both the the app store and iTunes work fine, as does iCloud backup and restore. How can I get this annoying popup to go away? Hopefully without having to wipe the phone clean and start the setup all over again.

iPhone 7, iOS 10.0.3, 128 GB

I was hoping I wouldn't have to reset all, but signing in and out of iTunes (done 3-4 times now) doesn't do anything. In fact last time I did it (a few minutes ago), as soon as the settings screen updated to show she was signed in under her valid ID, up popped the request to sign in under the invalid ID.

Oh well. C'est la vie.

Thanks. I'll let you know if it works.

Hi there, BillB100!

Thanks for reaching out via the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I'm seeing that your wife is being prompted to sign into the iTunes & App Store with an e-mail address that is not her Apple ID (or anyone's, really; it's just an e-mail address she uses). This is happening every time she turns the iPhone on. I'd be happy to help!

I recommend signing out of the iTunes & App Store, restarting the iPhone, then signing back in. This will clear out any previously used, incorrect information the iPhone might be holding onto.

You can get instructions on signing out of (and then back into) the iTunes & App Store here: Sign in with a different Apple ID on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Instructions for restarting they iPhone can be found here: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!

Thanks for the update.

The only thing you would need to sign out of at this point is the iTunes & App Store, since that is what is prompting you to sign in with the incorrect Apple ID. That said, we definitely want you to be able to sign in and out of iCloud, so try the following to address that:

Create a backup of your wife's iPhone, either using iCloud or iTunes, as detailed here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Then, go into Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. This will revert the iPhone back to its factory settings, and prompt you to go through the initial setup process again. When asked, sign into iCloud and other services using the correct Apple ID.

Have a good day!
