Q: Old MacBook Pro iTunes library is losing imported CD music, other CD's are multiplying (my back-up drive broke).

Old MacBook Pro iTunes library is losing many years of imported cd music. Some cd music files are multiplying - some are disappearing (my back-up drive broke, it fell hard). Brought to a Tech, bad move, it got worse

Is there a simple way to transfer the imported cd's into my new MacBook Pro w/out all the multiple files? (Duplicates is a different issue-not helpful). Or do I still have many more weekends to spend on each music file to see if the music is still there? I lost 2000 CD's in 2013, Hurricane Sandy, or I would have re-imported.

Any Ideas?

What you see in iTunes is a catalog of what iTunes thinks is on the computer. It is possible to get multiple entries in iTunes all pointing to a single file.  What you need to do is investigate the actual nature of these duplicates and see if they are real. I don't know of a way iTunes can really create duplicate files without action on your part. The exception is if you use iTunes Match or Apple Music but you make no mention of those.

Thanks for your respone. I do not use iTunes Match, nor the other. My hard drive is corrupt, even a tech couldn't fix it. I lost a lot of apps I use for work. But I've spent months, on weekends, manually trying to save what's left from my imported collection.

Thank you anyway. I appreciate your response.
