Q: Imported cd's disappearing some multiplying?

(my back-up drive broke).

Is there a simple way to transfer the imported cd's into my new MacBook Pro OS X 10.12 from OS X 10.6.8 w/out all the multiple files? (Duplicates is a different issue-not helpful). Or do I still have countless more weekends to spend ALL music file to see if the music is still there or missing? I lost over 2000 CD's in 2013, Hurricane Sandy, or I would just re-import.

Any Ideas?

Unless I'm missing something, just drag and drop the tracks/albums. I don't know of any way of avoiding duplicates.
