I have misplaced my iPad mini 2 Wifi model and it is offline.

Hello all,

I don't know if it has been stolen or if I have placed it somewhere which I don't remember. As my device is currently offline, the Find My iPhone feature is not able to track it down. What do you think I should do ? What steps should i take ? Should i wipe my data before knowing it is stolen ? Also even if i wipe it, it won't be deleted unless the device ic connected to internet right ? ( I have saved a lot of money to buy it :-( )
