Q: Cannot upgrade to Sierra as password not recognized

I cannot use my password to upgrade to Sierra as it is unrecognised in the first page. I am able however to access the Apple store with the device I am trying to upgrade and all my other deices. I have already tried logging out of the store and logging in again and have no problem doing it using the same password

    Hello brgrim,

Thanks for seeking help with installing macOS Sierra here in the Apple Support Communities. I am happy to check this with you.

I believe the password you are being asked to enter is the main admin password that is used to log in to your computer.  This is the same password used to unlock the lock in System Preferences. If it is blank, you will have to set a password to install Sierra. Do not worry though, you can enable automatic login in System Preferences > Security once the installation is complete.

If you need help changing your main admin password from blank to something else, please check this help article: If you can‘t unlock the Security & Privacy pane, make sure you‘ve set an admin password.

Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.
