Q: How do I reconnect messages to my contacts on my mac?

My messages app on my MacBook used to list the name of the person texting at the top.

Two days ago this stopped and now I only get their phone number.

How do I get the messages to identify the name of the contact, not just their phone number?

Thanks

    Hi KristenKL,

Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.

It looks like Messages on your MacBook no longer shows the names of your contacts. We're happy to troubleshoot this with you.

Start by making sure your iCloud account and any internet accounts you use for storing contents are enabled in System Preferences. You can use the steps in the following article to add your accounts if they're not visible in the Contacts app, either.

macOS Sierra: Use your social media and other Internet accounts on your Mac

If you're using an iCloud account, start with the troubleshooting steps in Get help using iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders:

Turn off iCloud Contacts, Calendar, or Reminders and turn it back on

    1. Tap Settings > iCloud.
    2. Slide to turn off Contacts, Calendars, and Reminders.
    3. If you see your calendars or reminders on iCloud.com or any of your devices, you can choose Delete from My [device]. If not, choose Keep on My [device].
    4. Wait a few minutes, then turn on Contacts, Calendar, or Reminders again.

    Best Regards.
