Q: What happens after I reinstall Mac OSX

I've been having problems with my Mac since I bought it nearly 3 years ago. It takes so long to open up and I have problems sometimes waking it up after sleep (even if it's only been asleep for a couple of hours). I have a late 2013 Mac 21.5 inch.

It's been suggested by the help team that I reinstall Mac OSX and them drag and drop the files I want from my time machine back onto the Mac.

Does this mean that I have to, in essence, completely set up my Mac again from scratch, or will it remember my users, passwords, document viewing/sharing permissions etc etc? I need to know what I might be letting myself in for as I use the Mac every day for work and can't afford for it to be out of action for a day or so while I get it all back functioning again.

Please help - I'm scheduled to do all of this with a technician tomorrow morning...

    User Login Items:

        Dropbox    Application  (/Applications/Dropbox.app)

        Photo Stream URL    SMLoginItem  (/Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/PhotoStreamAgent.app)

    Photo Stream URL    SMLoginItem  (/Volumes/My Passport/Backups.backupdb/Simon and Jane’s iMac/2016-03-15-151518/Macintosh HD/Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems/PhotoStreamAgent.app)

As I said in your other topic remove the item in bold  from your System/Users & Groups/Login Items preference pane, reboot and check the performance.

Thanks, but I'm being dim again. I've got to Users and Groups on System Preferences, but then I can't find how I'm supposed to get to login items preference pane? Sorry, but how do I find that please?

Use the "-" button at the bottom to remove the selected login item.

    Thanks Old Toad!

Well, that's a bit mad, yet again. It's not obvious that it's there! Unless the one with the exclamation mark is the offending item. I will check all the other users, but I'm thinking I have to log on to each user in order to check that and I'm not sure that it's likely is it?

I also can't figure out how to hit "Helpful" on your comments....

Clear that /!\ one out, logout and see if it comes back.

Re-rerun Etrecheck to see if it is back.

I believe the user login items are only read from your account when scanning with Etrecheck so I doubt there is much point in checking the other users, unless you just want to be 100% sure.
