Mac OS X
Q: Converting .iso to .cdr in Sierra
macOS is an excellent operating system. But as times change, it changes too. In previous versions of OS X, you used to pop in the disk and hit burn, but Apple re-created this process and it's still as easy as ever. Burning the .iso directly to the disk will not work if you plan on booting from it, so follow these steps carefully to do it correctly.
Please note that this will require a DVD (not a USB) larger than the file itself
- Open Disk Utility (click the search icon on the top right of the screen and type Disk Utility in, then hit enter)
- Drag the .iso to your desktop
- Open finder
- Navigate to your desktop in Finder
- Double-click the .iso- this mounts it
- Go back to Disk Utility
- You should see the .iso on the left sidebar
- On the top of your screen, click "images"
- Click convert. A window will open in Disk Utility
- Click "desktop" on the left sidebar
- Click the .iso once
- Click "open"
- Name it whatever you like without adding .cdr at the end.
- Encryption should be set to "none"
- Image format should be set to "DVD/CD master"
- Click "save"
- The converting process should be quick and smooth.
- Once it's done, click "done". If you peek at your desktop, you will now see the .cdr file
- Open Finder
- Go to "desktop"
- Click the .cdr file once.
- Right-Click the .cdr file
- Click burn disk image yourdiskname.cdr (names will vary, BE SURE IT ENDS IN .cdr)
- Click "burn"
- Wait for the process to complete. It will take around 15-30 minutes depending on your Mac's age.
- Once it's finish, eject the disk properly by going to Disk Utility
- Click the disk (not the image) and click the eject button. Let it take its time- it may take a wile for it to complete all of it's processes.
Hope this process worked!
Happy Burning,
-Gabe
