Taking the following steps should help in overcoming the problem :
- Open System Preferences -> Network
- Select WiFi from the list and go to the advanced option
- In the Wi-Fi tab of the advanced option check the "Turn Wi-Fi on or off" under Require administrator authorization
This should solve the issue.

Oct 19, 2016 8:33 PM in response to PavanGJby Craig2411,Thanks for the quick reply PavanGJ, much appreciated. While my problem hasn't resolved you have highlighted where my problem sits. When I go into Network preferences I can't select anything and get the spinning beachball. The only way out is by force quitting. I've tried a reboot but it still does it so obviously something there is corrupting my network connection...
