Q: Troubleshoot Syncing Contacts

I recently purchased an iPhone 7 and wanted to sync my contacts from my old iPhone 6. Luckily, i have iCloud and I simply used that to transfer the contacts. However, I noticed that some of the newer contacts I have entered into my iPhone 6 did not transfer over to the iPhone 7. I googled for about an hour but nothing seemed to work. However, I went onto the iPhone 6 and into the contacts app. I hit "groups" and played around for a bit with the different options. It turns out, that all the contacts I want, are under an account called "school email". I never use this email, so I then went into my settings app, mail, contacts, calendars, and then under contacts section I found that the default account was also "school email" so I changed it to iCloud. I then proceeded to go back to settings, hit iCloud, and uncheck contacts. When prompted, I selected to "keep on my iPhone" and then waited for a while before checking it again and selecting "merge". Yet this did not work. My iCloud account still did not have my new contacts. They are still under my "school email" group. Help!
