unable to unlock iPad

I have an iPad Air which is locked. I tried to recover it with iTunes. Downloaded en installed the latest version (12.1.3.6). When I try to reset the iPad iTunes gives the following message (I hope I translate it correctly):

"There is no software available for this iPad. Check if you have the most recent version of iTunes and try again."

The iPad is not my own, but from a friend. We don't know which iOs is installed on the iPad.

Can anybody help me unlock this iPad?

Hello King_Penguin,

Thank you for your reply. I all ready figured it out. Probably the OS was the problem. I installed iTunes on a Windows Vista pc and thought it would be the latest version. When I installed iTunes on Windows 7 pc it was the newer version, and I was able to unlock the iPad.

Thank you for your response: it was the right answer anyway, so I marked it as helpful.
