Since upgrading my iPhone 6 to IOS 10.0.2 Books being viewed suddenly revert to iBooks after about half a minute.
My iPad Air on IOS 10.0.2 still works normally.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

What do you mean 'suddenly revery to iBooks', what exactly is happening and when ?

I meant to say - when viewing a book in iBooks, the screen goes back to the iBooks Library after about 30 seconds as if I had pressed the < button in the command bar.
However, having seen your post, I checked my iPhone today and the effect has stopped happening. I don't think I imagined the effect but I have no idea what can have caused it.
My books are designed to be viewed with an iPad but it is useful the to try them on my iPhone as a portable demo.
