Application memory

I have updated my MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012 to Sierra version 10.12 operating system. It is now telling me I have used up all my application memory?

My question is how do I rectify this to clear memory, can I remove stuff and put it on a memory stick? or can I clean out things to give me more memory? any help appreciated thanks.
