Creating email alias in iOS 10 no longer possible?

Me too. Other mail apps on iOS 10 can send from google mail aliases. Surely Apple can too. Now if they only would!

All items I want to send via email from my phone are sent only from my primary address. Not from "sales@" or "tech@" which are aliases.

Makes apple iOS mail app unusable.

This is still an issue;IOS 10.3.2 does not allow aliases on gmail accounts. Anyone found an answer???

I just uploaded my gmail account as the "other" with commas and my 3 alias.

I received all emails but I cannot reply to any of them; they just sit in the outbox...

I have asked at the apple store and no one so far has been able to help! This is serious, as this is my business; now I can only reply on my computer; not phone or ipad....

Not only does iOS mail ignore Google's GSuite Aliases but when I selected a photo to send via email, aliases were ignored. I even added what was called "Gmail" to the list of photo send options (clicked more, saw Activities, turned on GMail) it only sees the primary email address of All of the gmail accounts in my Gmail App, but NONE of the aliases. YET the Gmail APP does see the aliases associated with each of the primary accounts, and lets me send from of each of the aliases. So why can't iOS do what other mails apps can do?

Definitely an Apple issue, not a Google issue. I run business mail through G Suite and have set up an email alias there. After much research, I figured out how to add that email alias to OSX Mac Mail but still unable to with iOS.

The secret is to set up your Gmail account in iOS as a mannually-added IMAP account, NOT by selecting Google in the add account screen. After it's set up you go back in and add another email address. Done.

It happend the same for me too. I realized that I was no longer able to choose the alias within an unique email account. In my case, I manage both a GMAIL and an OUTLOOK account within the OUTLOOK interface, having defined in it both accounts, and in the previous IOS versions I was able to choose the alias I wanted to send emails from.

Now, thanks to this thread, I tested to create the OUTLOOK account manually and adding afterwards de GMAIL account in order to be able to chose it within the MAIL app.

The bad thing here, is that I am only able to sync Mail and Notes, nothing about Calendars nor Contacts.

But in my opinion, Apple should let add a new alias for the native Outlook.com and Gmail wizard configuration within the IOS native Mail app.

I have the same problem. I had a pre-existing alias email that continued working after updating to IOS10, but it would take forever to download new messages. I tried deleting the alias and then could not re-configure it, as IOS 10 does not allow aliases on gmail accounts. Then I tried everything else, without success. The only thing that seemed to work was configuring a new generic account for the alias, and then using the main account's imap configuration. It works for inbound, but not for outbound. I could not find ANY smtp configuration that allowed me to send emails with the alias account, with ANY of several different servers I tried.

As you said, we cannot be the only ones with this problem.

I assume this to mean it's a function Google removed vs. Apple's iOS updates. Google has been making changes to the way iOS Mail works with Google for some time. Maybe try the gmail app.

Google is one of the emails provider using a fully automated mail setup process in iOS mail Meaning you simply enter your Gmail address and current password and Google configures the rest.

Even using the "other" template in iOS mail, although there is a spot for an outbound user name which may be unique, there is no place for an email alias.

You can still select an outbound SMTP server per outbound message, but it has to be a properly configured SMTP server.

It must be an Apple issue, as it was working before IOS 10.

Create a separate new email account for the alias, using the "other" option (none of the automatic ones).

Provide the alias email and password and wait for the configurator not to be able to complete the configuration automatically. It will ask for a server, email and pssw. Enter those of the main gmail account. That will take care of the inbound side.

For outbound, enter another generic imap account's configuration: server, email and pssw. Do not use the main gmail account's smtp info, or outlook.

Works really fine

Good to know. This proves it's a Google issue as Apple merely passes those commands to Google servers.

The only annoying thing is that all emails I send are going into the inbox, instead of sent.

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be a google issue as other mail clients on iOS 10 can handle adding an alias without issue.
