I was looking at using Remote Desktop in a music technology classroom environment to route audio around the classroom in the same way ARD does video (i.e. listen to the output of kid's computers, share the teacher's mac's output with the whole class, etc) but it turns out that it doesn't support audio, which is a shame.
So can anyone think of a way of doing this? Someone suggested using Soundflower or similar to route audio into iChat but I think this would be too cumbersome and breakable.
Try Jack audio server (and router). Jack and Jackd is an audio server developed for Linux and ported to OS X. Jack is here: < <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.jackosx.com/> There is an installer for OS X as well as a controler called "QJackCtrl.app". You can find it here: <http://ardour.org/requirements_osx> It also comes packaged for OS X, as you can see the controler has a drag 'n drop install.
I've just started playing with this but from the description, Jack Audio Server is quite capable of doing what you want.
? The documentation says that the NetJack component (for routing audio between systems) isn't included in the OS X version at this time. Has that changed ?
NetJack is not currently included in Jack. However there the OSX 10.4 (maybe earlier) AU plungins AUNetSend and AUNetReceive that will do the same thing.
