IOS 10.0.2 installed, now email keeps closing

Ever since I installed IOS 10.0.2, my email keeps closing after I go through several emails. I've tried doing a closing all apps and doing a hard reset.

Is anyone else having this problem, and is there a solution?

Hi there, pbeaule!

Thanks for reaching out via the Apple Support Communities. After reviewing your post, I understand that your Mail app unexpectedly quits while using it. I rely on Mail myself, so I definitely want to make sure your app works as expected; I'd be happy to help!

You've already tried a few good steps by forcing the app closed and reopening it, and restarting your iPad. Since that hasn't seemed to help, I have a few additional steps I can recommend. Please try them in the order provided, testing after each to see if it has resolved the issue. Before you begin, please create a backup of your iPad using iCloud or iTunes, following the steps here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

  1. Delete and re-download the Mail app, as described here: Remove built-in Apple apps from the Home screen on your iOS device with iOS 10

This step will remove your e-mail accounts, and any saved e-mail data, from the iPad as well. Once you re-download the Mail app, you will need to configure your Mail accounts again under Settings > Mail.
  2. Reinstall the iOS software on your iPad, using this article: If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Even though the title of the article is not specific to your issue, the steps under "Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again" will walk you through reinstalling iOS without removing any of your personal information (like pictures, Contacts, etc).

Cheers!

Thanks for the update!

Since the Mail app continues to quit unexpectedly after trying the above steps, the next suggestion we can make would be to have you restore your iPad back to factory settings, and then set it up as a brand new iPad (this means without using the backup you made before trying your previous troubleshooting--at least temporarily). After it is set up as a new iPad, add an e-mail account and test the app's performance. If you have more than one e-mail account on the iPad, add one at a time, testing after each addition.

You can get instructions on restoring your iPad to factory settings here: Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Have a great day!
