Problems Since Updating to Sierra

Ever since I updated my OS to Sierra I have been having several problems that I cannot resolve. First, my CPU is constantly running between 40-50% of its capacity even without programs running actively. This has shot my battery life since its running so hot.

I have restarted and shut down my computer, which hasn't helped. I often have to hold down the power button because it will not restart or shutdown when I select it. I reset my PRAM. Again, didn't help. I booted in Safe Mode, and that fixed it, but I can't find anywhere what this means and how to get it to run normally. I also ran Malwarebytes Anti Malware program, and it didn't resolve the issue. If you look at the screenshot, "launchservicesd" "loginwindow" and "WindowServer" keep running, taking up a huge amount of CPU. If a quit them or force quit them, they immediately reload.

Secondly, my applications will not come to the forefront when I select them from the dock. Ex. If I'm working on a document with Microsoft Word and I need to get to Safari, I will click on Safari but it will not come to the forefront. That's true of any other app.

Does anyone know how to resolve these issues?
