Q: Excel converts whole numerals to decimal

I am using an old Excel spread sheet and have created some new entries.  However, whenever I add a number into a new cell, such as the year 2016 or the number 5, it converts them to decimal places.  For example, 2016 becomes 20.16 and 5 becomes 0.05.  Using the Number or General commands to reduce the decimal places to zero (0), results in 2016 becoming 20 and 5 becoming zero (0).  Any ideas on how to correct this please?

Apple's site is for technical questions about Apple-branded hardware & software. The best place to ask questions about third-party hardware &/or software is the manufacturer's web site. In your case that would be Microsoft's Office for Mac forums. Use the drop-down menu on the left to choose the specific sub-forum.

Yeah, I know Peggy, but I thought there might be someone who'd had a similar problem in the Mac forums.  I posted the same question on the MS Mac forums and fortunately had a quick correct reply.  It turns out it was an Excel>Preferences>Edit error under the >did tab.  A quick uncheck of the offending "Display this number of decimal places" box did the trick.
