Oct 21, 2016 9:40 AM in response to Matthew Crozerby Rich839,Hi, Matthew,
As I understand it, the audio that is muting on You Tube is the embedded audio in the video clip. The added background track plays fine.
Since it worked when you first uploaded it to iTunes that means that iMovie rendered it properly. It would seem, then, that it is a You Tube issue. You might check the support section on You Tube's website to see if you can find any answers there.
You also could try re-uploading the video and see if that cures it. Instead of uploading it directly from iMovie, share the video to a file on your desktop, and then drag the file into You Tube's upload box. For some reason that method seems to have less problems than a direct upload.
Best,
Rich

Oct 21, 2016 9:52 AM in response to Rich839by Matthew Crozer,IIt's the strangest thing, I have re uploaded it already in the way you suggest and it still happens! I've uploaded it to a Dropbox shared folder and yester it worked today it doesn't. There are 5 people in the shared folder and it doesnt work on anyone's device? May it be something to do with the file type or .264 or .mov or .mp4??

Oct 21, 2016 10:02 AM in response to Matthew Crozerby Rich839,Yes, that is a bit strange. Since it did work properly initially, I don't think that it is a format issue. Mp4 and h.264 work fine with You Tube.
Maybe you can trick You Tube. Make a backup of your movie first. Then, on the copy, try detaching the embedded audio so it is a separate audio track, and then re-rendering and uploading it. It would probably be best if the audio track were formatted AAC, but aiff would probably be O.K. too. Sometimes Mp3 can be problematical.

Oct 22, 2016 8:29 AM in response to Matthew Crozerby Rich839,That's great! Can you describe in more detail exactly what you did, for others that might have your issue? I take it you were able to get the embedded audio to play only the left or right channel, and that solved it? How were you able to do that?

Oct 24, 2016 2:19 AM in response to Rich839by Matthew Crozer,I downloaded the Final Cut x trial because i couldn't work out how to make audio mono in iMovie.
I then went through and made every voiceover audio clip into mono and selected the left channel.
Re rendered and exported to youtube and bingo everything works perfectly
I may now have to buy FCX !
