want to delete iOS 10.0.2

Now that I've updated my phone to iOS 10.0.2, I am unable to transfer photos to my MacBook Air (get the message "your device is locked" (which it is not) nor am I am able to use it in iTunes--won't recognize the iPhone. I was on the phone with Apple Support yesterday and they said it is because the update 10.0.2 is not compatible with my current operating system on the MacBook Air. To upgrade my laptop, I will have to basically wipe my computer (transfer files to an external hard drive) to have the storage available for OS Sierra. I want to go back to the old operating system on my iPhone to avoid this nightmare scenario. I would have NEVER updated if I had known this was the outcome. Also with the new update, cannot seem to delete apps, nor email, just keeps coming back.
