Q: How to resolve software glitches on 10.68 after 'tidying up'

In an effort to get back some much needed space on my hard drive, even though I thought I was being careful, i pitched a lot of stuff - now I am having problems with Safari and iWork'09.

Safari (v5.1.10) will only partially load.

Keynote (v5.1.1), Numbers (v2.1) and Pages (v4.1) would not work at all. Msg I rec'd was 'check with the developer to make sure these work with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for these apps and Mac OS X.' I deleted the non working apps and re-installed them from the original install disc, only to receive the same message.

HELP, PLEASE. How do I fix all of these - and I promise to never throw out stuff again!!!

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

    Hi Pat,

I deleted the non working apps and re-installed them from the original install disc, only to receive the same message.

I have asked our Hosts to relocate your post to the Pages for Mac forum.

    Pages for Mac

There are several experts there who can advise you on how to update iWorks '09 to work effectively with newer versions of OS X.

    Regards,

    Ian.

Since you are on OS X 10.6.8, and we have no idea what you have removed, here is a suggestion.

    1. Backup your files. Reapply the OS X 10.6.8 Combo Update, and all other updates offered in Software Update. This should be non-destructive to your user data, and will put back the OS X installed applications.
      1. Move the combo update above to other storage off your Mac.
    2. Again, after the above, re-install from the retail (not trial) iWork '09 DVD, and run the Apple iWork 9.1 updater for OS X 10.6.8 to get you back to the last iWork versions for that release of OS X.

Thank you so much for your speedy response. I have the downloads all ready to go - but I have a question re iWork. Do I delete these apps before installing the 10.6.8 combo update, or, do I install the update, remove the old iWork apps, and then reinstall both the originals and update??? Or, something else????

    1. Install the 10.6.8 combo update
    2. Reinstall the iWork '09 DVD (it writes into System locations)
    3. Apply the iWork 9.1 updater (it strictly updates the iWork '09 applications)
    4. Continue with other software updates until none are offered
