Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having issues with your Dictionary application. That is a great feature and I know I would want mine working properly as well. What you might want to try next are some specific restarts. Check out this article to Try safe mode if your Mac doesn’t finish starting up. While this article speaks about the computer not starting up properly, it can also run repairs and stop startup items that can cause issues.
Another option you can try is in this article: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac. This will allow you to check to see if the issue is user specific or system wide.

Please click on go to go folder & type ~/Library find folder preferences , right click on com.apple.DictionaryServices.plist & move to trash .
Restart the system & empty the trash .

Oct 22, 2016 9:28 PM in response to heangjinby tygb ,Restart , the system and open dictionary I guess this plist will be recreated . if it is not shown , it is recommended to take back up of all data , & do a clean installation of Mac OS Sierra once again , ( clean the hard drive ) .
As , in user library > containers > there is a last folder com.apple.Dictionary & it is not to be removed .
