Q: Why do i get a spinning ball when starting a program?

Hi Folks,

Recently I have started to get a spinning ball when starting up applications on my Imac 27.

Can anyone tell why this may be happening and what I might do to trouble shoot this issue?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

I am currently running OSX 10.11.6 El Capitan.,

My Imac has 24 Gig of system ram and about 500 Gig of free space on my Mac Fusion HDD.

iPad 2, iOS 8.1

    Check the startup disk.

Launch the Disk Utility app located in /Applications/Utilities

Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab then click Run.

I just ran First Aid on my HDD and it says the disk appears to be OK.

Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Uninstall all of the Symantec A/V software according to the developer's instructions.  Do a Google search for that.

        Norton Security - Symantec Corp - http://www.norton.com/mac (2016-09-19)

You also have some kaspersky A/V software installed

      com.kaspersky.kext.klif (2.2.1d19 - 2016-09-19) [Support]

Uninstall it also.  A/V software is totally unnecessary on Macs.  Also never use any "cleaning", "optimizing" or "speedup" apps on a Mac.  They do more harm than good.

It appears that the Wacom is crashing.  Make sure you have the most up to date drivers for that device.

Also uninstall the Seagate software unless the Seagate drive is formatted to something other than OS X Extended (journaled) or FAT 32/64.  It's not needed to control Mac formatted hard drives.

    OT,

I've uninstalled the Norton Antivirus software, Wacom software.

I believe that the Kapersky Antivirus is a part of the Parallels VM software that I have to run windows, but I do not have it installed on my Win 7 VM, I do have Norton Installed there.

I can not locate the Seagate software you refer to even with a spotlite search, only thing it locates are some .pdf files.

Should I search for it via the library/application/support folders?

I have done a restart after uninstalling the Norton and that seems to have helped some so far.

    Your thoughts?
