Q: Odd calendar behavior in Sierra

Since upgrading to Sierra I've noticed several bugs in the Calendar app:

  • Whenever I open the app, it always says "Importing Calendar Data".
  • Events I have already accepted re-appear in the notification area all the time. Sometimes I have to accept or OK an event a dozen times before it goes away.
  • For some bizarre reason the calendar always opens to the week of November 6th. This happens on two macs that I use. There is nothing unusual about that week, I have no idea why this keeps happening.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, flarosa.

If I’m understanding you right, you're having several issues with Calendars since upgrading your Mac to Sierra: Calendars showing it's "Importing Calendar Data" upon opening the app, accepted events reappearing as if you didn't accept them, and your calendar defaulting to November 6th. I rely very heavily on the Calendars app on my own Mac, so I can certainly understand the importance of having it working correctly. I'm happy to help you get yours sorted out.

I recommend starting with the steps under the "Try these first" section in Get help using iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders, as well as the steps listed under the "macOS" section. Test out your Calendar app after trying those steps. If the issue persists, try some additional steps that will help troubleshoot the issue, and isolate it too. This includes testing out the Calendar app while booted in safe mode, and testing it out while logged in to a new user account.

You can find steps on how to create a new admin user account in macOS Sierra: Set up users, guests, and groups on your Mac. If the issues don't happen in a new user, then boot your Mac into safe mode using the steps in macOS Sierra: Start up in safe mode. Just to let you know beforehand, while in safe mode some features are not available, accelerated graphics are disabled, and certain software, kernal extensions, and login/startup items are prevented from starting up. Because of this, your Mac may run a lot slower than normal; this is expected behavior. After you have tested the Calendar app in safe mode, restart your Mac like normal and test out the app again. If you continue to have the same issues, reply back answering the following:

    1. Are your calendars synced with iCloud and/or anyplace else?
    2. Did the issue persist in the new user account?
    3. Did the issue persist while booted in safe mode?
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Take care.
