Why does my Macbook Air clock reset?

My early-2015 Macbook Air (operating on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5) is currently only on its 198th battery cycle count, yet every time I disconnect it from the charger it will completely shut down the computer (even when at 99/100%); and often after restarting it, the time and date will have changed to 1pm on 1st Jan 2009. If I try and access the internet it will bring up a web page saying "clock error" and I have to manually reset the date and time. Why is this? What can I do to fix it?

You have a faulty battery connection or a faulty battery. When you disconnect the charger the battery should take over to power the MBA. If it does not, the date/time will be reset to the default date. Bring the MBA into an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.

It is possible that a SMC reset may be beneficial (I have doubts but it will not hurt to try):
