Q: Restored From Time Machine & Broke System Preferences
Hey guys,
Bit of an issue here. About a week ago I went and tried to expand the hard drive space on my bootcamp installation. The software I used didn't end up doing it properly and long story short, it deleted the entire drive.
Windows was gone, but luckily I still had my time machine backup ready to go!
I went ahead and set up the whole restore process, started the computer fresh and after 9 wondrously long hours - it was back.
Only one problem (for now anyway), the system preferences pane will NOT open.
I was able to grab a screenshot of what does happen: http://i.imgur.com/PQJHcqp.png
I've spent nearly 4 hours going through different techniques and basically trialing and erroring to fix it. Nothing I've found on here or any other site has worked so far.
Please help, as I desperately need to get access to my settings.
iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12)

You could try recovery (Command + R at boot up or restart) and then install your OS over the top - you should not lose anything with this method, but it is good to have a current backup just in case.
