Q: After upgrading to macOS I cannot shutdown my MacBook Pro 2015
I've recently upgraded my MacBook Pro (late 2015) to macOS Sierra. I cannot turn off my MacBook. When I press and hold the power button, then select shutdown, the laptop begins the normal sequence of shutting down. However, it never fully turns off. The screen is black, but the keyboard lights are on and the Apple logo light is on. The only way to turn off this laptop is to press and hold the power button again until the lights abruptly shut off. But, the next time I boot or turn on the MacBook I get messages indicating there was an improper shutdown.
Is it possible to (easily) roll back to my previous operating system (El Capitan)? Or, maybe fix this extremely annoying issue with this laptop.
EDIT: I can't restart either - it just hangs. So, I'm forced to cut power - causing more messages regarding improper shutdown/restart.
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), null

It looks like the problem has something to do with MySQL. Under macOS Sierra MySQL could not be stopped - it would instead hang - and this seems to have prevented macOS from restarting or shutting down properly. The problem might have been triggered by not stopping MySQL before upgrading from OS X to macOS Sierra. MySQL was was installed on OS X and set to start automatically. Removing MySQL solved this particular problem. I can shutdown and restart my MacBook normally now.
