Oct 22, 2016 6:55 AM in response to QuickTimeKirkby River-runner,That's a bummer, I've been doing it my way since my first CCII. I hated to go thru the birthing problems of each new upgrade also, it gave me time to go thru all my apps and see which ones I had to buy new versions of. I guess i'll call around and see who I can d/load to a thumb drive from co's I don't like getting from source other than Apple.
Thanks and you blokes have a g'day

Oct 22, 2016 6:59 AM in response to River-runnerby QuickTimeKirk,The El Capitan download is associated with the Apple ID (required) used to get it.
You can't "borrow" a copy of OS 10.11.6.

Oct 22, 2016 8:04 AM in response to QuickTimeKirkby River-runner,Actually Kirk I was hoping to somehow get 10.11 mate, not just an update to something I don't have. situations like this;
With every Mac system upgrade, information about compatibility is often not available on the first day the new system is available, and emerges over time. If you use your Mac to run a business or as a serious hobby, do not upgrade to Sierra until you’re prepared to recover if things don’t work out. Wait until you are confident that all of your software and hardware is compatible, then back up everything, then upgrade. With that in mind, here’s what I know so far about the state of Adobe software etc etc in Sierra. WAIT
This is why for for close to 30 years I've been doing it my way, and it worked fine. I'm a video tech, d'u know how many different friggin video wall, switchers, Audio control systems and adobe programs I gotta worry about now.
Ah that feels better

Oct 22, 2016 8:35 AM in response to River-runnerby babowa,Well, I do not upgrade immediately either; however, what I have learned is that Apple withdraws the old OS version as soon as the new OS is publicly available. So, even if you do not wish to install it immediately, you can easily download it and tuck the installer away in a safe place - you always need a full installer which you can then easily update. I am still running El Capitan on my production iMac, but I have the full installer of MacOS Sierra downloaded and parked on an external drive until I am ready.
As for El Capitan - it is only available if you've downloaded it before, are running 10.6.8, or your Mac does not meet Sierra's system requirements. It was available to everyone before Sierra was introduced.
So, my suggestion to everyone is: download Sierra and put the installer somewhere safe until you're ready for it.

Oct 22, 2016 8:38 AM in response to River-runnerby QuickTimeKirk,Only 10.11.6 is available from the App Store and only to those Apple ID's that previously downloaded El Capitan.
There is a version of El Capitan available but only for machine that don't support Sierra.

macOS Sierra 10.12: Compatible Apps
Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.
Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.
