Error after App Store downloads additional Apple Loops and Instruments: "An error occurred while running scripts from the package “GarageBandExtraContent.pkg”.(112)"

Did anyone run into this problem? Can't install GarageBand 6.0.5 update with additional loops and instruments on macOS Sierra — after the update is downloaded, App Store reports "An error occurred while running scripts from the package “GarageBandExtraContent.pkg”.(112)" and then nothing happens. I tried to find the package after that but nothing was found (I suppose App Store app deletes the package after that).

I picked a grayed-out loop in GarageBand and selected "Download Now"/"Download Later" (tried both several times to download the loops); now this update comes every day for several days already, and I can only download it without any result.

I tried to clean up GB-related folders in /Library/Application Support and ~/Library/Application Support and re-install GB, but still have this error.

Zoran's answer (direct download from Apple) may be better for you if your machine is handled by managed services like 'jamf'. Also, to install this version, assuming you downloaded it to "Downloads":

Open "Downloads" in the Finder, and look for "GarageBandExtraContent.tar".
Double-click that file, which will expand to a folder named "GarageBandExtraContent".
Open that folder, and double-click "GarageBandExtraContent.pkg.tar", which will expand to "GarageBandExtraContent.pkg".
Double-click that file to actually launch the installer for the loops.

Can you please help me...'cause I am getting this same error while loading Garage Band updates. In terminal I use the same command as you mentioned "sudo find / -type f -iname GarageBandExtraContent*". I put in my admin password but after a while it gives me an errors "find: /dev/fd/Fedes: No such file or directory" ... Do I have to type in some file name or what??? Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I'm having the same problem except I have both GarageBand 6.05 and 10.2.0 installed. The App Store automatically moved 6.05 into a separate folder in the Applications folder after I downloaded 10 from the App Store.

sudo find / -type f -iname GarageBandExtraContent*

gives permission denied even with admin password.

The main problem is it keeps trying to redownload it from the App Store with the same problem every time.

Is there anyway to prevent the App Store from trying to redownload it?

Or should I manually download the linked file for support files and install that and hope it goes away?

I figured out how to get this extra content:

1) When App Store app starts downloading this update, open Terminal.app and run:

sudo find / -type f -iname GarageBandExtraContent*

(you need sudo because App Store content is in protected folders and you can't access it with regular user rights),

the command will find something like:

/private/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n00000s0000068/C/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/43/39/061-5890/y2FxthySsyd2PSt3zfZ4mz3XkbqdGZPDZc/GarageBandExtraContent.tar.resumeData

2) Copy the path and enter another command, but don't hit Enter yet:

sudo cp /private/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n00000s0000068/C/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/43/39/061-5890/y2FxthySsyd2PSt3zfZ4mz3XkbqdGZPDZc/GarageBandExtraContent.tar ~/Desktop/

(don't forget to delete .resumeData part from the path, this will copy .tar archive with .pkg inside to your desktop),

3) Now wait with patience and attention until App Store downloading progress changes to "1.20 of 1.20 GB, Calculating" — it means file is downloaded and App Store app is going to unpack it (and show the error), at this very moment hit Enter in Terminal to run the command and copy that file,

4) You'll see GarageBandExtraContent.tar on your Desktop, unpack and install.

That's it, now you have all the extra content in GB.

A bit easier is to skip the App Store app and download directly from Apple:
