Q: Photos 2 problems

Since upgrading to Sierra "Photos" 2 has been a disappointment. It use to be I plugged my 2 usb cameras JVC Everio Video Cam, and Canon Power Shot 1400 in and Photos would auto launch. Now I have to open a finder window and click on the icon before Photos sees it, sometimes double click on it.

I use Photos (even the name is a bad upgrade) to edit my videos, so I up my raw shots, delete what I don't like and then trim the rest. What is weird now, is after you do the trim and go back to all your recent uploads, the thumbnail shows the footage before it was trimmed. ***, I didn't use to.

I don't see a thing that has improved here, and sorry this sounds like a rant but I I think Apple is losing focus. They make apps, they don't use. Even posting in Communities is confusing (Mac user since 1989)

With the camera plugged in and  in Photos' Import window check this checkbox:

However, if the camera has a memory card that you reformat with the camera occasionally to clear it out you'll have to recheck that box the next time you connect the camera.

Thanks much Old Toad, that solves that problem. Any idea about the trimmed video file thumbnails?

Try resetting the trim on one of the problem videos and the trim again.

If that fails you can try repairing the library according to the instructions in this Apple document: Repair Your Library.

Warning 1: If you use iCloud Photo Library with Photos, this action will cause Photos to upload all your pictures again (from Fix missing or incorrect thumbnails in Photos - Apple Support).

Warning 2: Be sure to make a backup of your current library.  Rebuilding has been known to cause additional issues so having a current backup to fall back on is critical in this case.

I did notice on the problem clip, that when I went back it showed the yellow trim brackets and the footage I thought I had deleted.

I use Photos to help in basic edits (trim - and delete bad clips) before I export them out to use in iMovie, I usually delete the files from Photos after. I do frequent videos and know that Photos doesn't delete the photos/videos right away. Perhaps I am giving it a bit of a work out.

Thanks, next I'll try rebuilding the Library.
