Q: dates, locations all wrong after switch from iPhotos to Photos

All of the dates and locations for my photos are incorrect subsequent to switch from iPhoto to Photo. Date range of photos in any timeframe are often decades off. How do I correct this?

    Hello puccello1,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding the date and locations for photos are incorrect in the Photos app. I can see how this would be concerning, especially if the dates are decades off. I'm happy to help.

First I recommend following steps to correct the date and locations:

Change a photo’s date and time

You can change the date and time associated with a photo. You might want to do this to add date and time information to scanned photos, or if you travel to a location in another time zone, and your camera assigns your photos dates and times that are correct for your home, but not the place you visited.

    1. Select the photos you want to change.

    2. Choose Image > Adjust Date and Time.

    3. Enter the date and time you want in the Adjusted field.

    4. Click a time zone on the map and choose the closest city, if necessary.

    5. Click Adjust.

    Remove a photo’s locations

You can change the location information associated with a photo or revert it back to its original location information.

    1. Select the photos you want to change.

    2. Choose Image > Location, then choose Remove Location or Revert to Original Location.

If you assigned location information manually to a photo that did not have it, Revert to Original Location removes the location information you assigned.
