Q: Restore a Deleted Email Address

A year or so ago I deleted an e-mail address from MAIL and would like now to restore it. When I try to set up the account I receive an error message that says "account already exists." Email Preferences does not allow me to enable the account - the "enable" option is grayed out for that address. Help! Using macOS Sierra.

sorry… I should have said that deleting the remnants of the account as described above allowed me to re-add the email address properly. Thanks again!

Just asking, are you highlighting that Account in Mail Preferences before trying Enable this account?

Yes, I did. That didn't work.

But I have since figured out the answer for myself! In system preferences/internet accounts I just had to highlight the address and then click on the "-". I can't remember if I originally deleted the account there or not, but am happy to have found the fix!
