Q: AirPort Express's Dropping Out

Two AirPort Expresses working at same time. Different ID's, different passwords. Both using AirPlay. One in basement, one in main level living room. Both drop out of network when not in use. Can sometimes recover by unplugging for 10-15 seconds and replugging in and using AirPort Utility. They are on a network with 12 other devices but, not all being used at the same time. Maybe 6-7 at a time are being used on high traffic peak time. One is a repeater for daughter and grandchildren next door. I am setting up the AirPort Expresses using AirPort Utility on a Mid 2011 21.5 in iMac running OS X 10.9.5 w/16 GB of RAM to connect to the network. Would it help if I switched from a static channel on the AT&T modem to an auto channel mode? Would I be better off using a permanent Ethernet line directly to my desk-top from the modem and then setting up the APEx's? Or is there APEx's being bumped off due to network device overload and it wouldn't matter how I set up the connection from the modem to the desk top or set up the channels?
