When I was installing Sierra, one of the steps was suppose to text me a 4 digit security code for iCloud. Well I've been waiting for hours now, and never got a text. Anytime I go to iCloud, it seems like a 6 digit code is provided and I enter it. What the heck is the 4 digit code used for, and how do I get it re-texted to me if I need it? Thanks!!

If you can access an approved device that uses your iCloud Keychain
You can create a new iCloud Security Code from another device that also uses your iCloud Keychain.
On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iOS 8 or later:
- Tap Settings > iCloud > Keychain > Advanced.
- Tap Change Security Code.
- Enter your Apple ID password when asked.
- Enter a new iCloud Security Code.

I am signed into iCloud and keychain works fine. I want to simply CHANGE the icloud security code. I don't have an "advanced" button as mentioned above (iOS 10) OR an advanced button on sierra in system preferences...
How to simply change the code?

iCloud should ask for a password: the Apple ID and password, to be precise.
You should NOT change it. Or it changes for everything connected to by your Apple ID. You can noz have a different one for iCloud only.

Ok, but the question is how to change the four digit code when there is no button allowing me to do it. Understand I'll have to touch all devices to update.
I'll just follow the forgot the code process I guess... thanks...
