I have the same problem. Just installed the new macOS and my computer is running hot, with the battery drained after only two hours instead of the previous 6 hours + (Minimum applications open, just listening to internet radio station and Mail open)

Energy Saver options only control sleep and display times.

I skipped the Yosemite upgrade because the reviews were bad but was finally convinced to do this one.

I realized that there was a lot of setup running, with disk encryption taking several hours, but have restarted several times now and same problem. Even startup takes a while, before was instantaneous.

Can I roll back to OS X?

I have the late 2013 15" Retina, and I too am experiencing this problem, especially after upgrading to MacOS Sierra. Now with a full charge, I cannot get more than 2 hours (more like 1:45). I have nothing running but mail and Safari. Even if I quit mail and Safari the battery life is the same. I upgraded from OS X Yosemite -> El Capitan -> Sierra. Sierra is giving me most problems so far.

I have already tried the following:

* procedures posted by John Galt about: Please read Apps can affect Mac performance, battery runtime, temperature ....

* performed SMC reset

The problem still exists.... Any other suggestions? I guess my last resort will be reformat and reinstall the OS, but that would be the last resort....

This is not a usual problem with apps or slow performance, but is very specific to the new MacOS Sierra.

Obviously there is a major issue with the new OS which dramatically affects power consumption and therefore battery life in these slightly older (2012-2013) MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display. My experience is identical to the other two users and occurred immediately and dramatically following the OS Sierra upgrade. Only 1 or 2 apps are open (Safari and Mail), nothing unusual is loaded, I have run my computer this way for two years with 7-8 hours battery life, my power settings are default or lower and the screen is blanked out after 10 minutes, and I even tried dimming the screen and keyboard to no effect.

I am going to place a support call to see if this can be fixed or if I need to roll back to my previous OS X.
